General Description

The RDS-2.5GS (see Figure 1) serves as a “fast track” developing tool for designers to achieve a much shorter design cycle in implementing Next Generation Equipment using SONET/SDH transport.  At the center of the system is the AETHER-2.5GS single-chip implementation of an OC-3/12/48 Add-Drop Multiplex, with additional capabilities to support bandwidth grooming, configuration and Path Layer performance monitoring functions.  This “single device solution” complies with SONET/SDH standards and specifications, including ANSI T1.105, Telcordia GR-253-CORE, ITU-T G.707 and G.783.

The RDB-2.5GS Development System consists of the hardware and firmware (w/API) required to develop solutions for a variety of Network Transport challenges that designers face in Legacy and Next Generation multi-service SONET/SDH, and other types of equipment deployment.

The Development System allows for rapid and cost effective realization of transport solutions for applications such as Ethernet Over SONET/SDH using INTEC’s GFP and VCAT processors.

The RDS-2.5GS hardware provides several optical interfaces for OC-48, OC-12 and OC-3 channels allowing the development of different channel Add/Drop configurations.  In addition, there is the option to input GbE optical signals for developing EOS application solutions.

In essence the RDS-2.5GS system provides a reference design for equipment providers who want the best and most cost effective SONET/SDH multiplexer product in their portfolio.  The implementation of features available inside the AETHER-2.5GS system chip, in combination with the Element Manager Software supplied by the equipment provider allows for unique differentiation of the market leading Network Element, with a very fast development cycle.
